Assumptions behind this result
  • Every listed out makes a final winner, and a hit stays winning through any remaining card.
  • Any runout containing no listed out loses.
  • There is no future betting, rake, tie, or range uncertainty.
  • With two cards to come, the same outs remain clean on both cards.

THE METHOD

Pot odds without shortcuts.

01

Find the final pot

Add your call to the current pot. If the pot is 90 BB and the call is 30 BB, the final pot is 120 BB.

02

Calculate the price

Divide the call by the final pot. A 30 BB call into a final 120 BB pot needs 25.0% equity to break even.

03

Compare clean equity

Nine clean outs on the turn hit 9 ÷ 46, or 19.6%, of rivers. That misses a 25.0% price, so folding is mathematically correct under these assumptions.

QUICK ANSWERS

What this calculator does—and does not do.

What are poker pot odds?

Pot odds are the price of a call: call amount divided by the final pot after you call. Compare that percentage with the chance your clean outs arrive.

Why 46 unseen cards on the turn?

You know two hole cards and four board cards. That leaves 46 unknown cards before the river.

Does this include implied odds or opponent ranges?

No. It is a transparent direct-showdown model. Future betting, rake, ties, dirty outs, and range uncertainty require additional assumptions.
